Introduction to the working temperature of rolling bearings

Apr 05, 2023

1、 Material selection

1. General rolling bearings can be selected according to the national standard GB/T18254-2002 "High Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel" at normal operating temperature (room temperature).

2. When the working temperature of high-temperature rolling bearings exceeds 300 ℃, materials can be selected according to YB688-2000 "Technical Conditions for High Temperature Bearing Steel Cr4 MO4V".

3. Low temperature rolling bearings (bearings with operating temperatures below -60 ℃) are commonly made of stainless bearing steel 9Cr18 and 9Cr18Mo materials. Materials can be selected according to GB/T3086-1982 "Technical Conditions for High Carbon Chromium Stainless Bearing Steel", or materials such as beryllium bronze and ceramics can be used for manufacturing.

2、 Heat treatment process

When using high carbon chromium bearing steel for general rolling bearings, the heat treatment process shall be carried out in accordance with the national machinery industry standard JB/T1255-2001 "Technical Conditions for Heat Treatment of High Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel Rolling Bearing Parts".

When the working temperature of high-temperature bearings exceeds 300 ℃, they can be treated according to JB/T2850-1993 "Technical Conditions for Heat Treatment of Cr4MO4V High Temperature Bearing Steel Rolling Bearing Parts" and then applied.

3. Low temperature bearings can be applied after being treated in accordance with JB/T1460-2002 "Technical Conditions for Heat Treatment of High Carbon Chromium Stainless Steel Rolling Bearing Parts".

3、 Rolling bearing operating temperature

1. The universal bearing is made of high carbon chromium bearing steel and processed according to the above heat treatment process. The working temperature of the ball bearing under normal working conditions (room temperature) can be controlled according to relevant standards, that is, after passing life and reliability tests and evaluations.

a. The test regulations can be found in Article 5 of JB/T50013-2000 "Rolling Bearing Life and Reliability Test Regulations". Item 5.4: When the temperature of the bearing outer ring is lubricated with grease, it is not allowed to exceed 80 ℃; When lubricating with oil, it is not allowed to exceed 95 ℃.

b. The test and evaluation can be found in Article 6 of the national standard GB/T24607-2009 "Life and Reliability Testing and Evaluation of Ball Bearings". Item 6.2: When using circulating oil lubrication, the temperature of the outer ring of the bearing should generally not exceed 95 ℃; During grease lubrication, the temperature of the outer ring of the bearing should generally not exceed 80 ℃.

2. Operating temperature of bearings under high temperature conditions:

a. The rolling bearing is made of high carbon chromium bearing steel, with a working temperature between 150 ℃ and 350 ℃. According to JB/T2974 standard, when the working temperature is between 150 ℃ and 350 ℃, the bearing model suffix can be marked with S0 to S4 for indication.

b. Rolling bearings are made of high-temperature bearing steel, with a working temperature of over 300 ℃. The specific working temperature will be determined separately based on the working conditions.

3. Low temperature bearing working temperature:

The rolling bearing adopts high carbon chromium stainless bearing steel, and its working temperature is below -60 ℃. The specific working temperature will be given separately based on the working conditions.
